10 Horror Movies Where The Characters Are All Complete Strangers
6. Identity (2003)
If you want to name a film that's more famous for its bonkers twist ending than the actual movie itself, then you'd better point your finger towards this 2003 James Mangold thriller. Still, despite it's reputation, it deserves some credit for being a well-rounded flick.
Identity shows as a collection of ten strangers are stranded in an isolated motel, with an unknown assailant picking them off one by one. It's up to former police officer Ed Dakota (played by John Cusack) to figure the mystery out. Alongside this is a parallel story of a murderer awaiting a verdict.
Of course, if you know the twist, you'll also know that these "strangers" are technically far more related than you'd expect. But discovering that ridiculous plot point is part of the fun, and having all the characters be unfamiliar with each other is a big lead-up to that shock.
It's safe to say the reveal is polarising, but it doesn't change the fact that the movie is a tense thrill ride with some solid acting, noir-esque visuals and a fun reverse chronology gimmick that throws any newcomers through a loop.
