10 Horror Movies Where You Don't See The Monster Until The End

5. Smile

The Woman
Paramount Pictures

2022's Smile was a surprising hit about a therapist who encounters an evil spirit who manifests as sinister smiling people. Nope, nothing at all frightening about forced smiles.

Dr. Rose Cotter is sceptical at first, but quickly comes round to the idea upon discovering that the creature feeds on trauma. After desperately trying to avoid the entity's curse, Rose comes to face-to-face with her pursuer during the film's final moments. Actually, a more accurate way of phrasing that would be "face-to-skinless-face".

Despite hiding behind the visages of so many people, the actual creature itself has no face to speak of. It is a huge, flayed-looking beast with several sets of vicious jaws. Unable to overcome such a hideous enemy, Rose succumbs to its wills and, like all its other victims, takes her own life.

Whilst the final form of the creature is far from pleasant, it might actually be more scary when its presenting itself as people with manic grins. Seriously, that stuff is nightmare fuel.
