10 Horror Movies Where You Don't See The Monster Until The End

3. The Fly

The Woman
Brooksfilms

In real life, flies are a bit of a pest who might ruin your picnic if you're not careful. In the world of these two movies, they're the most horrible things you've ever seen in your life.

Both the 1956 version (directed by Kurt Neumann) and the 1986 version (directed by David Cronenberg) of The Fly are about a scientist who accidentally fuses his DNA with one of the titular insects and transforms into a hideous hybrid.

The Cronenberg movie, which stars Jeff Goldblum as Seth Brundle, is the one with the better monster reveal, as the afflicted genius sadly loses the race against time and his own body. During a violent confrontation with his lover, Ronnie, Seth's jaw gets completely ripped off. Rather than killing him, this kicks his metamorphosis into overdrive, resulting in a grotesque final form that will make you think twice about ever watching A Bug's Life Again.

This version of the creature isn't around for very long, as a tearful Ronnie shoots it to end the movie, but it definitely maximised its minutes. An all-time great from the master of body horror.
