10 Horror Movies Where You Never See The Villain

6. Paranormal Activity

The original Paranormal Activity reminded audiences just how much smart filmmakers could do with minimal resources, as writer-director Oren Peli shot this found footage film for just $15,000 with two unknown lead actors and a single central location.

The bulk of the movie's suspense set-pieces more-or-less amounted to locked-off cameras being pointed at various areas of Katie (Katie Featherston) and Micah's (Micah Sloat) seemingly haunted house.

Viewers were effectively invited to scan every portion of the frame looking for even the most vaguely "supernatural" phenomena, from gusts of wind to closing doors and what might be footsteps in the night.

The closest we get to seeing the series' demonic antagonist, later named Toby, is the spectacular sequence in which Toby's decidedly not-human, three-toed footprints are briefly seen, yet his full physical form is never shown.

Yet in its desperation to deliver a tell-all "final" chapter the sixth film, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, did ultimately reveal Toby's demonic visage to the audience, which was about as generically underwhelming as they come.
