10 Horror Movies Where You Never See The Villain

Over the course of his fast-rising career, Mike Flanagan (Hush, Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep) has proven himself a master of filmmaking efficiency in the horror genre.

True to form, his 2013 film Oculus focused on siblings Kaylie (Karen Gillan) and Tim (Brenton Thwaites) as they face off against a most terrifying of antagonists - a haunted antique mirror known as the Lasser Glass.

Flanagan offers up no concrete explanation for why this mirror terrorises its victims and we're never shown the actual form the supernatural entity takes, only the troubling illusions it generates and the sure tragedy it causes.

With just a $5 million budget at his disposal, Flanagan was forced to get creative rather than fill the screen with digital monsters, and the end result was all the better for it.
