This 2017 flick starring Joey King follows a teenage girl called Clare who discovers a magical music box which bestows seven wishes upon her. However, this isn’t a Disneyfied Aladdin style romp, as each wish comes with a deadly price.

As she is granted popularity and release from a tormenting bully, disastrous consequences begin to follow. Like the polished, cheerleading younger sister of The Craft, each wish sees Clare and those around her fall victim to her wants and desires – even if they are fairly understandable.

The film chugs along as you’d expect, with bodies piling up as Clare has to overcome her own demons and tragic past in order to overcome the temptation that the box provides. Yet there’s a real stinger of an ending waiting around the corner.

It’s revealed that the box takes the life of the user once their wishes have been used. Through some supernatural shenanigans, Clare believes she has thwarted the threat and the audience does too. All of a sudden however, she is abruptly hit by a car! It's so out of the blue, and an ending that has no mystical meaning at all!
