2. The Reason For The Game - Circles
If you woke up in a room full of fifty complete strangers and every time someone tried to leave they were killed, what would you do?
This is the premise of the 2015 film Circles. The members of the group are either killed every two minutes or if they break any of the rules that are instructed to them over a loudspeaker. However they can elect people to kill, and as is human nature, things get pretty nasty pretty quickly.
Bodies pile up and factions split the group in two. Emerging protagonist Eric starts putting two and two together as more about the group as well as the mysterious system operating around them. And he cracks the code right at the end: it’s aliens.
Yep, aliens had conducted the whole thing in order to learn about human behaviour. Whilst the twist is pretty wild, the real horror is, ultimately, the horror of humanity’s actions and attitudes.
