10 Horror Movies You Didn't Know Nearly Happened
6. Tim Allen's Cat In The Hat
Much has been said about why Mike Myers' attempt at embodying Dr. Seuss' beloved character was a colossal mistake due to its attempts at blending the book's wholesome nature with adult-styled humour, but few know about the more(?) terrifying origins of the 2003 box-office bomb.
Before Myers came along, Tim Allen was slated to star in a version of the film inspired by his childhood experiences with the book. According to the Home Improvement star, the eponymous character scared him and he always envisioned him as a human who transformed into a cat-like being in order to deal with the unruly children he was meant to babysit.
Unsurprisingly, this direction was not given much thought by Dreamworks Pictures, and when a new team of writers was brought onto the project, Allen had already moved on to The Santa Clause 2 and Myers replaced him. Much has been said about why the eventual story we got disrespected Seuss' original vision, and Allen's version had the potential to be a divisive departure on its own.
That said, the bizarre nature of the Myers version was perfectly captured in this parody trailer that showcased the horror potential of the classic story.
