10 Horror Movies You Won't Believe Are Coming Out

7. Blacula Reboot

1972's Blacula was the very first blaxploitation horror film - a Dracula parody in which an African prince (William Marshall) is turned into a vampire by Count Dracula after refusing to help him quash the slave trade.

Though the film was released to mixed reviews, it was enough of a box office hit to spawn an entire genre of similarly themed horror movies centred around parodying the offensive stereotypes of Black people as depicted in white media.

Despite Blacula's undeniable cultural and historical relevance, few ever expected it to be remade or rebooted, especially given the decline of the blaxploitation genre by the turn of the century.

But back in 2021, a new Blacula film was announced with filmmaker Deon Taylor (Meet the Blacks) set to write and direct a reboot that takes place in a post-pandemic metropolis.

Blaxploitation is certainly a tough nut to crack in the modern era - evidenced by flops such as 2018's Superfly and 2019's Shaft - and a genre few expected to show signs of life at all in the 2020s. Good luck to them, though.
