The death of the great George A. Romero in 2017 seemed to mark the natural end of his legendary run of zombie movies, ensuring that the final project he began writing before passing, a finale to the Living Dead franchise entitled Twilight of the Dead, would never come to fruition.

Twilight of the Dead was only partially written when Romero died, but in 2021 it was unexpectedly announced that co-writer Paolo Zelati was set to complete the script under the supervision of Romero's daughter Suzanne Romero.

The story will reportedly unfold on a tropical island and revolve around some of the few remaining humans on Earth.

While word went quiet on the project for a while, last year it was confirmed that Brad Anderson (Session 9, The Machinist) would direct the film, with Milla Jovovich and Betty Gabriel set to star.

Though many horror fans will immediately dismiss Romero's "final" film given that he passed away some years ago, the fact that the franchise is still shambling around at all - not unlike its undead subjects, even - is quite the shock.
