10 Horror Remakes So Bad They Never Got A Sequel

3. Friday The 13th

Nightmare On Elm Street Remake
Paramount Pictures

Due for release on 13 January 2017, Platinum Dunes’ latest Friday the 13th movie is rumoured to be an origin story that introduces a brand new timeline, but this much is certain: it won’t be a direct sequel to their 2009 movie.

There’s a reason for that. Despite the film being the most successful remake of an 80s slasher, audiences sided with USA Today’s critic, who wrote: “While it’s billed as a ‘reimagining’ of the horror franchise, this Friday is more like a rehash, delivering just what you expect and nothing more.”

Dreary, dismal and disappointing, the movie is a list of ingredients that’ve been slung together in a food processor, microwaved and served up by a clueless fry cook. It was bad enough when cinema audiences shouted “He’s right behind you” before each kill, but the film achieves something that none of the Paramount sequels did: it manages to be boring.

If you watch the movie, don’t miss the scene where Aaron Yoo, the token ethnic minority who provides “comic relief”, goes out to the tool shed. When Jason appears, Yoo hands him a hockey stick and says, “This completes your outfit.”

What is this, Scooby Doo?
