10 Horror Remakes You Didn’t Know Were Coming In 2019
1. An American Werewolf In London
The Original: Regarded
as a milestone of the horror-comedy genre, John Landis’ 1981 film An American
Werewolf in London gave moviegoers just the right amount of gore and guffaws.
Notable for its ground-breaking and gruesome makeup effects including young protagonist David’s lycanthropic transformation and the gradually decaying state of his dead friend Jack, the movie saw Rick Baker rightfully awarded the inaugural Academy Award for Best Makeup.
The Remake: A remake was first announced in late 2016 with Landis’ own son Max writing and directing though the younger Landis has been suspiciously quiet since tweeting back in December that his first draft of the script was complete and included some “fun stuff”.
You’d think that if there has to be a remake someone from the Landis bloodline would be the best person for the job but Landis Jr. seems to be somewhat unimpressed with his dad’s movie claiming that barely anything happens plot-wise which is a tad worrying an interpretation.
Add to that the younger Landis’ rather inconsistent screenwriting abilities – like the excellent Chronicle and not-so-excellent American Ultra – and the current lack of recent intel kind of makes sense. He must be feeling pretty daunted.
Hopefully we’ll get a fresh take that’s just the right amount of faithful to the original or Christmas round the Landis household could be pretty awkward in future.
