10 Horror Sequels You Didn't Know Were Happening
5. 48 Meters Down
The surprisingly successful shark-bait blockbuster of last year is getting a follow up in 2019 - this time trapping five divers in an underground cave system with some hungry, hungry sharks.
Dropping the shark cage and instead focussing on a scuba expedition seems like the best choice for the sequel, as another film in the same vein as 47 Meters Down wouldn’t have anything new to offer. Sounding a lot like The Descent meets Jaws, there's opportunity for a promising film to come from its synopsis, especially in light of how well constructed the previous film was.
Shark films are a dime a dozen, and many don’t get critical acclaim simply for the restrictions of their genre. 47 Meters Down broke that trend by producing a well-made shark horror for the first time in a few years, so every faith is to be had for Johannes Roberts in the claustrophobic follow up.
