10 Hotly Anticipated SXSW Movies You Need To See In 2014
6. Before I Disappear
Before I Disappear is written and director by its star, Shawn Christensen, who is also one of the editors. This might give you the sense that Before I Disappear will offer something much too personal to have broad appeal, but the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would kindly disagree with you. They gave Christensen's Curfew, the 2012 work this feature is based on, the Oscar for Best Live-Action Short Film, and anyone who has had the privilege of seeing Curfew, will agree that it was a well-deserved honour. This is what SXSW is all about, finding that talented young filmmaker and giving their work a platform. Before I Disappear will expand on the story of Richie, a depressed and suicidal young man, who receives a call from his estranged sister in desperate need of a sitter for her daughter. Richie cancels his plans and decides to look after his niece for the night. It's a very moving story in short form, and it will be really interesting to see how it translates to feature-length. Whether it does or not, Christensen is a name to watch in festivals to come.
