10 Huge Movies That Were Instantly Forgotten

2. The Mummy (2017)

The notion of any modern Tom Cruise-starring blockbuster evaporating from memory in a mere matter of years seems ridiculous, but in 2017, the year before the Cruise Missile reached his true peak era with Mission: Impossible - Fallout, he starred in a reboot of Universal's The Mummy franchise.

Though few were asking for a new take on The Mummy - especially one without Brendan Fraser - Cruise and co. forged ahead anyway, with what was ultimately a shockingly generic action-adventure tentpole without a shred of personality to offer.

Even the ever-reliable Cruise seemed totally out of his element here, in a film clearly more interested in setting up a universe of monster movies rather than just delivering a single good project first.

Oh, and Russell Crowe shows up for a brief cameo as Dr. Henry Jekyll, because why the hell not?

The Mummy was pilloried by critics and underperformed at the box office, causing Universal to put a bullet in their planned Dark Universe before it'd even really started.

And though the film isn't even seven years old yet, when was the last time you had even a fleeting thought about it?
