10 Huge Recent Movie Moments That Fell Totally Flat
6. Crassus Kills Wow - Megalopolis
You could probably call Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis a giant moment in of itself that totally fell flat, but there's one scene in particular that those few who bothered to watch it haven't been able to stop talking about - for better and indeed for worse.
In the film's deeply unhinged climax, the world's richest man Hamilton Crassus II (Jon Voight) seeks revenge on his wife Wow Platinum (Aubrey Plaza) and her co-conspirator Clodio Pulcher (Shia LaBeouf) for scheming to steal his riches.
How does he do this? While bedridden following a stroke, he hides a bow and arrow under his blanket disguised as a boner (yes, really), before pulling it out, shooting Wow point blank in the chest and killing her instantly, and then wounding Clodio by firing an arrow in his ass.
It's certainly... a series of choices that led the director of The Godfather and Apocalypse Now to this moment, which is destined to live on as a context-devoid meme on social media rather than... whatever the hell Coppola was actually trying to do here.
