10 Huge What Ifs That Could Have Changed The MCU Forever

4. What If Chris Evans Turned Down Captain America For A Third Time?

In Chris Evans' capable hands, he turned a character that's arguably the least-interesting of the Avengers on paper into the beating heart and soul of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tony Stark might have been the flashy and impulsive star of the show, but Steve Rogers was the glue that held it all together.

Things could have turned out completely different had the actor stuck to his guns and turned down the role for a third time, having knocked it back twice already given his concerns of committing to a multi-picture deal, and fears about being typecast for the rest of his career.

Having embodied Captain America for the best part of decade, it seems impossible to imagine anyone else as the star-spangled superhero, vindicating Evans' decision to finally accept the part after much soul-searching. Not only is he the leader of the Avengers, he's the star of the MCU's best trilogy thanks to the actor's perfectly-pitched performances.

Ryan Phillipe, John Krasinski, Sam Worthington, Garrett Hedlund, Chad Michael Murray, Jensen Ackles, Alexander Skarsgard, Kellan Lutz and Channing Tatum were all on the final shortlist to play Captain America, and you simply can't see any of those names playing the role even half as well as Chris Evans ultimately did.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
