The Star Wars universe and its lore is so ridiculously vast that the movies come nowhere even close to covering everything. There are beloved characters fans have been waiting for in live-action for years, and there are always theories as to when they could be brought into things.

One such character is Darth Plagueis the Wise. The former master of Darth Sidious was namedropped in The Revenge of the Sith, and when a mysterious character like Supreme Leader Snoke was introduced, fans became certain that the two were one and the same.

A new leader and supposed big bad that came out of nowhere simply had to be connected to someone else in the Star Wars universe, or so the fans thought. And not just thought, since this felt as guaranteed as anything could be in George Lucas’ world, but it wasn’t to be.

In a move that shocked and pissed off Star Wars fans everywhere, Snoke was unceremoniously killed off in The Last Jedi, and was confirmed to be nothing more than a creation of Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker. What a hugely disappointing reveal, and one of the situations where the fan theory would have been far, far better than the reality. In this at least, Snoke wouldn’t have been completely pointless.
