4. The Pixar Theory - Toy Story 4
Thanks in no small part to the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared universes are everywhere in Hollywood right now. From the DCEU to the SSU, the MonsterVerse, the epic fail that was Universal’s Dark Universe, and many more, studios are following the blueprint laid down by Marvel Studios. However, Kevin Feige wasn’t the first to do this.
There is a huge theory that there are connections between every single Disney Pixar movie, and that with no exception whatsoever, each and every one exists within the same universe. Sorry MCU, Pixar beat you to the punch 13 years before Iron Man.
That was the thought at least, right up until Toy Story 4 in 2019, when producer Mark Nielsen actively went out of his way to disprove the Pixar Theory. Nielsen revealed that, though they enjoy the theories that often came from using characters and sets based on the same designs, there was a conscious thought while making the movie to prove the theory wrong.
In the antique shop, there were Pixar Easter Eggs plastered everywhere, essentially included to put to bed the Pixar Theory once and for all. Though this one has technically been debunked, you get the feeling that fans and audiences will continue to slot each new Pixar movie into the theory like it hasn’t been.
