10 Hyped 2019 Movies That Disappointed Everyone
6. Charlie's Angels
Much like the Lion King, Charlie's Angels is yet another remake of a (once) popular franchise, and much like Captain Marvel, looked to push its message of female empowerment. While this has a hugely important part to play in the future of cinema, this was perhaps a difficult property to feed it through.
The premise of the original show is, in itself, exactly the kind of outdated material that may have been welcome in the '70s, but has no place in today's market. From the very beginning this made any remake tricky, even if this would have been the first attempt.
This was not the case, however. After the original series came the 2000 movie and subsequent 2003 sequel, Full Throttle, followed by another reboot just eight years later in the form of a one season and done TV show. Surely by now the window for interest in seeing any more of Charlie's Angels has long since passed.
Despite a strong cast including Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, Djimon Hounsou, and Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Banks' take on the Angels simply didn't resonate with fans around the world, opening to an uninspiring $8 million on opening weekend, and ending its theatrical run at just over $50 million.
