10 Hyped 2019 Movies That Disappointed Everyone
5. It: Chapter Two
With the current movie climate so obsessed with remakes, it is no surprise Andy Muschietti's It was such a success in 2017. Based on Stephen King's masterpiece, the movie was able to utilise special effects unavailable in 1990, while Bill Skarsgard's performance as Pennywise the Clown went above and beyond Tim Curry's from 27 years earlier.
Naturally, a sequel was inevitable, and with a cast that included Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and the returning Losers Club, expectations were high. Yet, in what is a classic example of a sequel failing to capture the magic of its predecessor, Chapter Two simply couldn't live up to the hype.
Nobody needed this movie to run for over two and a half hours. By the end there is something of an exhaustion that sets in, which is particularly frustrating given the underwhelming ending and lack of real payoff for the wait.
Quite possibly the biggest problem with It: Chapter Two is the distinct lack of Pennywise. The villain is one of the most recognisable in the movie world today, and the drop off in screen time for the clown was extremely disappointing.
