10 Hyped Movie Characters (That Did Absolutely Nothing)

5. Taskmaster - Black Widow

Taskmaster is among the few Marvel supervillains who didn't need to change to transition from the comics to the big-screen. Thanks to his larger-than-life personality and creative putdowns, the skull-masked mercenary should've felt right at home in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With his ability to replicate any fighting move, comic book fans expected some killer action sequences when Taskmaster debuted in Black Widow.

Instead, the filmmakers went out of their way to desecrate this character. This gender-swapped incarnation of Taskmaster (Olga Kurlyenko) is devoid of personality, since she never speaks.

Rather than serving as the main antagonist, Taskmaster plays second-fiddle to Ray Winstone's Dreykov, who is even more forgettable. Although the MCU usually embraces the colourful costumes of the source material, here Taskmaster's iconic outfit was replaced with a bland uniform.

Despite being among the world's greatest combatants, the mute assassin doesn't have a single memorable fight scene in Black Widow. Also, the big twist revolving around Taskmaster's identity was predictable, especially since the opening credits gave away Olga Kurylenko's casting.

Marvel fans have been let down by badly adapted comic book characters time and time again, but this one really stung.
