Despite having a number of redeeming qualities, such as the ability to ride bears and the ability to source hand grenades, Brick Tamland will apparently be told by a doctor at an indeterminate point in the future that he has an IQ of 48 and is what some would call mentally retarded. Perhaps as a result of this, Brick can be lost when the other members of the news team engage in heated debate with station news chief Ed Harken. Not knowing what he is yelling about, he sometimes seeks to contribute by merely reflecting on what he is hearing from others and many have sought to do the same, though some, such as a spectator at the Wimbledon Championships last year, choose to do so ironically.
