10 Iconic Batman Comics That Should Be Movies (But Won't Ever Be)

9. Batman And The Monster Men

Batman should perhaps be a little more sympathetic towards Two-Face. After all, few comic book characters are portrayed in such wildly contradictory ways as Bruce Wayne, the human detective who fights street thugs one moment and super-powered threats just one issue later. The fact that Batman remains a believable character whether he works alongside Gotham's Finest or aliens and Amazons is a huge testament to the power of his persona. Matt Wagner's story Batman And The Monster Men looks back at the Caped Crusader's very first encounter with an enemy who exists beyond the realms of normality. Mad scientist Hugo Strange has begun experimenting on the inmates of Arkham Asylum, creating an army of bloodthirsty creatures determined to rip Gotham City apart at the seams. A younger, inexperienced Batman is the only thing standing in their way, but not even the Dark Knight is confident that he's ready for the challenge ahead. Batman And The Monster Men is a gripping read, but are cinematic audiences ready for a supernatural Batman tale? Bruce has encountered the paranormal numerous times throughout his illustrious history, including magical characters such as Deadman and there's even alternative stories where he's transformed into a vampire. However, Nolan's trilogy proved that a realistic take on Batman is what audiences are currently looking for and while this will develop as the DCU expands, we're still a long way from seeing solo Batman movies dedicated solely to the supernatural.
