10 Iconic Directors Who Don't Have A Film In The IMDb Top 250
3. Spike Lee
Best Known For: Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever, Inside Man Most Deserving IMDb Top 250 Candidate: Do The Right Thing Spike Lee, perhaps the most famous African-American director working in Hollywood, is such an iconic force onto himself that he tags his movies as "Spike Lee Joints" and gets away with it. Lee has been a prominent filmmaker for a number of decades now, and though not all of his pictures have been critical or commercial successes, his movies almost always feel like him. If that isn't what being an icon is all about, what the heck is? 1989's Do the Right Thing, without question Lee's masterpiece and one of the most important films of the '80s, not only deserves to be somewhere on the IMDb Top 250, but it also deserves to a place close to the top. You'd be starved to find a better slice of original, boundary-pushing filmmaking than Do the Right Thing, and yet it has amassed a rating of 7.9. It should have been the film to get Lee on the list, but sadly he hasn't found a place.
