10 Iconic Horror Movie Characters Done Dirty

7. Jason Voorhees

While he's currently set to rear his head again by the turn of the year in Paramount+, A24, and Bryan Fuller's Crystal Lake TV series, it's not always been smooth sailing for Jason Voorhees. And that's not including his literal sailing in Jason Takes Manhattan.

One instance of Jason being done dirty - and the audience, for that matter - was Friday the 13th: A New Beginning. Of course, that was the F13 movie where the hulking, hockey mask-adorned, machete-wielding maniac of the picture was eventually revealed to not be Jason Voorhees. Instead, it was miffed paramedic Roy Burns who was under the mask, leaving certain fans extremely frustrated at paying to see a Jason movie that featured no Jason; Roy simply serving as a copycat.

Sticking with that theme of a Jason-less Jason movie, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday is another that upset many in that regard. While Voorhees would be present in that film, he's blown to smithereens in the opening sequence, with the physical form of Jason being absent from the bulk of the feature, as the spirit of Jason Voorhees is passed from person-to-person by a turd-like parasite.

On top of that, there are those who also weren't particularly happy with how Jason was depicted in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, and Jason X.
