10 Iconic Horror Villains Of The Past Decade

5. Annabelle (The Conjuring)

Annabelle just had a few minutes to shine in The Conjuring, but those were memorable enough to warrant her own spinoff film. This character seems like a clear attempt to create a modern Chucky, and that's been mostly successful between her two on screen appearances. Like Chucky, Annabelle is pretty visually distinct and creepy as hell with that vacant stare, but at the same time she thankfully isn't over the top. She isn't so scary looking that you couldn't imagine anyone wanting to own this doll. She's just innocent enough. But unlike Chucky, Annabelle hasn't actually moved on screen yet. The closest time was a scene in her spnioff movie where she rises up off the ground, but that's only because she's being picked up by a demon. It's not as if she's really moving on her own. No, Annabelle manages to be scary in a far more subtle way. Something really sinister will happen, and then the camera will slowly zoom in on that eerie smile as if she's mocking you. If she gets her own franchise, she probably will start walking and talking, but for now, Annabelle manages to shock just by sitting there on the shelf.
