The Texas Chainsaw continuity appears to have five different timelines with all the sequels and reboots!

The first two films show Leatherface living with his brothers and Grandpa. He is called ‘Bubba’ and his family is the Sawyers. The sequel ends with him being killed with a chainsaw and then blown up by the uncle of the victims in the first film. The third film ignores the second and shows him living with different brothers, ‘Mama’ Anne Sawyer, and his daughter(!). He is referred to as ‘Junior’, and survives the events.

The third timeline changes the family name to ‘Slaughter’ and introduces yet more brothers, a sister-in-law and the return of Grandpa. Leatherface is called ‘Leather’ in this incarnation and survives.

A remake of the original and a prequel backstory followed. Born in a slaughterhouse, his mother died during childbirth. Deformed and thrown in a dumpster, he was found by Luda Mae Hewitt, who raised him as her son Thomas. Leatherface survives, but with one arm cut off with a chainsaw.

The latest series consisted of a sequel and prequel to the original film. Leatherface (Jedidiah Sawyer) is taken to a mental institution as a boy and his mother Verna helps him escape as a teenager. His handsome face is torn in half by a bullet so she sews him up and puts a mask on him. Verna marries a rich man and Leatherface goes to live in the basement of her mansion until she dies and his cousin Heather inherits it.
