10 Iconic Movie Costumes Actors Hated Wearing
3. Arnold Schwarzenegger – Mr. Freeze
Arnold Schwarzenegger was never going to win any artistic acclaim in the role of a Batman villain so campy only the advanced movie magic clear in his transformation distinguished him from the enemies of Adam West '60s incarnation of the caped crusader.
Not only did the full look require six hours to perfect, it also demanded the attention of 11 special effects artists. Though, according to artist's estimates, Schwarzenegger could have trimmed around one hour of the process if he would've agreed to shave his hair off.
After the painstaking process of turning Arnie metallic, frosty blue, he had to don the iconic battle suit. The hulking equipment weighed 45lbs and would likely entail too much strength and stamina of someone without Schwarzenegger's peak physical fitness.
Yet, the worst part of the costume was happening in Schwarzenegger's mouth. The toxic blue glow in Freeze's signature smile was achieved by fitting LED lights around his teeth. This went as well as you could imagine, but battery acid began leaking into Schwarzenegger's mouth inflicting burns. Balloons were inserted as a safety measure.
Schwarzenegger doesn't appear to be too scarred by the experience. He has a contract with Warner Bros. to rent the costume from them for a yearly fee of $1.
