3. James T. Kirk - Star Trek: Generations
James T. Kirk remains, to this day, the most popular and beloved
Star Trek character of all-time. If you were drawing up a list of the most iconic characters in the realms of both television and cinema, Kirk would be right up there at the top. I mean, what a legacy this man has left in his wake, right? The decision to kill off a character quite as popular as Kirk, then, was bound to be met with controversy - as a result, you'd have thought that the filmmakers tasked with doing such a thing would be incredibly careful and try their best to handle it correctly. Nope. They killed the poor son of a b*tch off by dropping a bridge on him. And for those of you who think that I'm referring to something sci-fi based that exists in the
Star Trek universe which also happens to be called a "bridge," nope: an actual bridge. Like, a big metal one. After saving Picard and preventing world annihilation, Kirk falls down a ravine on a rickety old bridge, and gets, like, chewed up in the metalwork or something. It's not that clear, really. After admitting that he had "fun" on the Enterprise, he passes. What a dumb way for a such an icon to pass on the torch.
