10 Iconic Movie Moments (That Were Only Added At The Last Minute)

2. An Awful Lot - The Hobbit Trilogy

The Iconic Scene: How well remembered The Hobbit Trilogy will be remains to be seen. Will it be known as a somewhat worthy follow-up to The Lord Of The Rings or a Star Wars Prequel-level betrayal? What's certain is that, with both movies thus far grossing around $1 billion dollars, their contents will be ingrained on the popular consciousness for years to come. The scenes we're looking at specifically here are the fan-fiction-esque relationship between Tauriel and Kili and the foundry-set confrontation between Smaug and the dwarves in Erebor, although there's more. Why Was It Last Minute? When expanding The Hobbit (originally set to be two films) into a trilogy, Peter Jackson claimed he had enough content to make the expansion, which was something of a white lie. You see, much of what's been included to flesh out The Hobbit into three painfully long movies was inserted later on, shot in reshoots in 2012 and 2013. The scenes mentioned above are notable additions made in an attempt to give The Desolation Of Smaug, a film made entirely in the edit, a sense of purpose - while a wordy confrontation between Bilbo and Smaug is fine when it's immediately followed by the attack on Lake-town, it isn't what audiences expect from the finale a tentpole blockbuster.
