10 Iconic Movie Moments (That Were Only Added At The Last Minute)
5. The Tusken Raider Cheer - Star Wars
The Iconic Scene: Pretty much every scene in Star Wars is iconic. The film has become such an integral part of popular culture, proving an essential call-out for both The Simpsons and Family Guy, that even people who've (somehow) never seen them know all the big moments. One of the less obvious, but no less memorable, moments is the debut of one of the series' best creatures, the Tusken Raider. When out searching for a awol R2-D2, Luke comes across a party of sand people, one of whom rudely knocks him out, but not before emitting that distinct screech and shaking his gaffi stick above his head. Why Was It Last Minute? The Tusken Raider was always going to pop up and surprise Luke, but its celebration was going to be rather different. The original shot of the creature just had him raise the stick once, but in the edit this was repeated and reversed, creating the longer moment that was required. Think of a pre-computer version of a recurring gif. The editing of the film was pretty contentious, with Lucas firing John Jympson after his first cut (which featured a third of footage not in the finished film) ended up being a "complete disaster." No wonder things had to be scrapped together.
