10 Iconic Movie Moments That Were Completely Improvised

10. Humphrey Bogart's Lookin' At You, Kid - Casablanca

Few movies have endured the test of time quite so effectively as Casablanca. Set - and filmed - during the second world war, it's a movie which almost transcended the politics of the time, opting instead for an intimate portrayal of a man torn between love and virtue. Widely considered to be one of the greatest American films of all time, what it lacks in intellect and formal rigour it makes up for in atmosphere and character. But it is perhaps the dialogue which has elevated it to the status of a classic - while some might argue that Casablanca is overrated and the dialogue throughout can lean towards the over-sentimental and melodramatic, it's impossible to deny that some of the lines within have gone down as the most quotable in history. One line - "Play it again, Sam." - isn't actually in the movie, but the other famous quote is repeated four times throughout the film, in which Humphrey Bogart says to Ingrid Bergman, "Here's looking at you, kid," was all Bogart's. The line doesn't appear in the script, and it transpires that it was actually an in-joke between the two leads, deriving from their poker games between takes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEWaqUVac3M
