10 Iconic Movie Scenes You Won't Admit Have Aged Terribly

8. Spider Head - The Thing

If there's one film that is often cited as proof that practical effects trump CGI then it's John Carpenter's classic sci-fi horror movie, The Thing. Held up against the misjudged 2011 prequel/remake, it's clear that the hands-on approach to monster effects can deliver real shocks. One of the stand out scenes in The Thing comes when the hapless scientists use a defibrillator on one of their companions after they suffer a heart attack. As the doctor shouts "Clear!" and plunges the device onto this chest it suddenly opens up to reveal a cavernous mouth, before the writhing head stretches off the body and falls to the floor. It looks great - that is, until the dismembered head starts to scuttle along the floor looking rather like a remote controlled model. As one of the characters watches on he says to the others, "You gotta be f**king kidding!" Indeed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15hHUK1lIgk
