3. Alien Chest Buster
The Scene: After an unfortunate run in with a touchy feely Alien, Kane is seated happily at the table eating a nutritious dinner when out of nowhere, he starts writhing on the table screaming and finally a baby alien explodes from his stomach. Yum.
Why It Overshadows The Movie: Alien is a tension filled, slowly told story about a crew under siege from within its own ship, a conspiracy and a mysterious alien life form. Its all very patient and careful about its build up...This scene is the complete opposite. It quite literally just explodes into life, taking the movie into a much darker path whilst making everyone question the safety of the popcorn they just ate. The cast are as shocked we are after not being told the specifics of the scene (Lamberts horror at having blood splatter on her face when his chest explodes is real, she didnt know that was about to happen) and it helps create an immersive, shocking and very real feeling horror/sci-fi set piece. One not really in keeping with the rest of the movie yet one that fits so perfectly in to the greatest movie of its kind.
