10 Incredible Casts That Were Wasted On Really Awful Movies

5. Pearl Harbor

Cast: Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Tom Sizemore, Jon Voight, Colm Feore, Alec Baldwin, Mako Iwamatsu, Michael Shannon, Matt Davis, Jaime King, Jennifer Garner, Dan Aykroyd, Scott Wilson, Tom Everett, Peter Firth and William Fichtner. Ben Affleck may have been a dirty name in Hollywood at the time, but if the past few years are anything to go by, the man has talent. And talent doesn't just come to someone over night, so shame on him for not putting in better performances at the beginning of his career. Or perhaps he should be shamed more on the basis of his career choices from earlier on in his career. Having not learnt from his mistake of working with Michael Bay on Armageddon (number 10 on this list), he signed up to work with him again and double-teamed their audiences with a movie that is so self-celebratory American that both of them may as well have walked into the cinema and started throwing apple pies into our faces. But Affleck was a young man, he can be forgiven for his mistakes. It's the older, more experienced actors such as Alec Baldwin and Dan Aykroyd who should instead be thrown to the wolves. Its sizeable budget suggests that the pay cheque was more motivating than the awful script that should have had every respectable actor running for the hills. Pearl Harbor was unoriginal and overlong, historically inaccurate and the romance is flat. It wants to be Saving Private Ryan, yet is anything but. It still makes me doubt humanity to this day that it made over $300 million of its budget back at the box office.
