A time when... Adam Sandler used to be 'okay.' Yes, it's difficult to believe that in our lifetime, Adam Sandler used to be one of the biggest movie stars in comedy. Love him at that time or hate him, many of his films including The Waterboy and Happy Gilmore made mega bucks and a sizeable fan following. He may have never really been a critical darling, but at least he used to be a respectable actor who could attract legendary actors such as Jack Nicholson and the Fonz to appear in his pictures. That time has long been forgotten, though. Sandler now makes his abundance of cash (Forbes recently named him the most overpaid actor of 2013) through rehashing unintelligent humour that has a lower brow than Wayne Rooney's Neanderthal ancestors. The cast may not be an overly exciting one today, but the majority of the names have done something good in their careers, especially Steve Buscemi and Chris Rock. Apparently the names are still enough to attract many viewers into the cinema, as Grown Ups made enough cash to possess the makers with the audacity to do it again last year, which, much to our horror, grossed almost as much money again.
