10 Incredible Follow-Ups To Iconic Movies (That Nobody Saw)
7. Ed Wood
Between 1988 and 1992, Tim Burton seemed like an unstoppable cinematic force whose Midas touch reaped great rewards at the box-office. With an impressive run of sequential hits with Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Batman Returns (A.K.A. the best Batman film), Burton could seemingly do no wrong when it came to putting bums on seats.
He then decided to follow-up on his winning streak with the 1994 biopic Ed Wood, which to many film-buffs and Burton enthusiasts is his best work. This high badge of honour however did not mean that Ed Wood continued his winning streak.
Telling the story of Ed Wood, the man proclaimed to be the worst director of all time, Burton got to take a step away from the kooky morbidness he was known for and play it a little straighter than usual. It's a funny, charming and thoroughly entertaining film that features a great central performance from Johnny Depp.
Being a radical departure from his previous big-budget efforts, Ed Wood is a much simpler film to digest. The usual Burton idiosyncrasies are here from the off-kilter tone, black and white cinematography and the celebration of weirdos, but it's delivered in a much more grounded way.
