None of Lars Von Trier's movies are what you'd call 'easy watching'.

The controversial director is known for his provocative works, and even has an informal project known as the 'Depression Trilogy' to his name, which lets you know the kind of fun experiences you're in for.

His recent horror movie, The House That Jack Built, is perhaps his most button pushing, explicit project yet. The story follows twelve years in the life of a serial killer, as he engages in a series of depraved murders, something which Von Trier captures in all of their gory detail.

Like Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer on steroids, the audience is spared none of the detail, including the murder of children and the explicit mutilation of the victims' bodies. For even die-hard horror fans, this is not an easy thing to sit through.

Of course, while this makes for an effective - at times fascinating - horror that's unafraid to delve into the twisted and self-aggrandising psyche of the murder, it's undeniably a gruelling experience.

Opting to spending another two-and-a-half hours trapped in the mind of a killer this brutal is a hard sell.
