10 Incredible Movies With Just ONE Awful Scene

8. Snowpiercer – (Nearly) Everyone Dies

Snowpiercer Ending

Snowpiercer is a modern classic. A superbly made, brilliantly-acted, devastating yet endlessly entertaining post-apocalyptic thrill-ride, this one is so well-realised and richly written that it has the potency of a television season despite only being a two hour film.

Alas, despite being a modern masterpiece, Snowpiercer doesn't end well. The film centres on a train that is travelling around the now lifeless world following a global catastrophe and it carries the last remnants of humanity. At the end of the film, the train derails in an avalanche after a passenger detonates an explosive and two kid characters are apparently the only survivors.

South Korean films do often kill off nearly everyone (probably due to South Korean cinema's emphasis on melodrama) and this can feel rather jarring and unnecessary. Snowpiercer was a particularly bad offender in this regard, since the death of everyone on the train felt pointless and overly bleak.

Sure, the system that was sustaining the remnants of humanity was appallingly corrupt, but even so, the fact that the film chose to destroy most of what was left of humanity felt a bit harsh. Still a great movie though.
