10 Incredible Movies With Just ONE Awful Scene
9. Ring – White Shoes
Japan's Ring is one of cinema's finest horror experiences. A dread-laced, bone-chilling and nightmarishly creepy J-Horror flick, this combines a melancholy, haunting ghost story, fears about modern technology and some of the creepiest imagery in film history to devastating, unforgettable effect.
For the most part the film speeds towards its legendary climax with little interruption, but there is a single scene which proves a massive hiccup, especially on repeat viewings.
Ryuji, the film's secondary protagonist and a man with psychic powers, is sitting in a Tokyo square when a mysterious, evidently supernatural female figure wearing white shoes approaches him. Ryuji senses her, asks "Was it you? Did you do this?" and the figure then disappears.
This illogical scene not only adds nothing to the film, but it is literally never explained or even mentioned again. In a film that's otherwise watertight and economically paced, this entirely superfluous scene, whatever it actually meant, sticks out like a sore thumb.
