10 Incredible Movies With ONE Unnecessary Scene

7. The Fireys - Labyrinth

Crazy Stupid Love
Lucasfilms

Labyrinth centres around a teenager called Sarah who traverses through a maze infested to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King. Labyrinth bombed spectacularly at the box office but that hasn't stopped Jim Henson's feature becoming a classic. It's baffling that critics hated on this film since there is so much to love including the dance numbers, the creative critters, the astounding animatronics, and David Bowie's delightful performance.

But there is one moment that grinds the whole thing to a halt. While navigating around the maze, Sarah encounters Fireys - a horde of beasts that can disconnect their limbs without suffering harm. Since the Fireys don't understand humans like having their arms and legs firmly attached, Sarah becomes terrified when they try pulling her limbs off.

Unfortunately, the special effects in this sequence aren't up to snuff, making the whole scene fall apart. Even though Fireys' design is great, the green-screen is so blatant, you never believe the actress is standing beside them for a second.

To be honest, these visuals looked dated back in 1986, and because the scene is inconsequential to the plot, the director should've cut it when he realised how ropey the whole thing was.
