10 Incredibly Popular Movie Heroes Who Are Totally Overrated

5. Tony Stark/Iron Man - The Iron Man Series

First things first: credit where credit is due - if it wasn't for Robert Downey Jnr's performance, Iron Man would remain to this day the second rate, less popular Marvel character he is in the comics. Downey's effortlessly charismatic turn as the billionaire playboy and inventor transformed the character into perhaps the most memorable and loved of all Marvel's on-screen incarnations. But the character itself is ridden with personal flaws which bring into question his status as a "hero" - indeed, they suggest that Stark is almost the opposite, far more concerned with himself than either saving the world or even those closest to him. Even though he eschews his former career as an arms dealer, the fact that he was comfortable making a fortune selling weapons of mass destruction suggests that his moral compass was once as out of whack as the villains he claims to despise. On top of this, his answer to a lot of his problems - whether it's relationship issues or criticisms and failure - is to sink the contents of a bottle and wallow in inebriated self-pity. In short, he's a narcissistic, egotistical arrogant alcoholic. And while these are hardly the traits of a true hero, they sure make him perhaps the most interesting, entertaining and human-feeling characters masquerading as one. On top of that, Tony Stark would probably be the first to admit he isn't interested in being a hero either.
