10 Inescapable Plot Holes In Avengers: Endgame

8. The Infinity Stones Aren’t Hot Potatoes Anymore

In the years leading up to Avengers: Endgame, a lot of important continuity was gradually established about the Infinity Stones so that we could go on to accept the cosmic weirdness of these last two Avengers movies at face value.

One of those fundamental pieces of information has been that the Infinity Stones cannot be handled by mere mortals, without risk of life and limb.

The events of Guardians Of The Galaxy (the first time the audience even hears the words ‘Infinity Stone’) make it very clear that the Power Stone will reduce you to atoms if you grab it, and the Collector’s whole expositional speech about the Infinity Stones revolves around the fact that you have to be a being of great power to hold any Infinity Stone.

Just to reinforce that, most of the Stones require a housing of some kind in order to be wielded by normal folks. The Power Stone is held within the Orb, and the Space Stone within the Tesseract; the Mind Stone is inside the Sceptre, and the Time Stone inside the Eye Of Agamotto.

Given that… there’s a lot of touching the Infinity Stones going on in Endgame. Hawkeye handles the Soul Stone with no ill effects, Rocket pulls the Aether out of Jane Foster with a glorified dustbuster, and multiple mortals hug the new Infinity Gauntlet tight to themselves at the end of the movie trying to make an end run around Thanos’ army.
