3. Lethal Weapon
The Original: Shane Black and Richard Donner's indelible buddy cop movie starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, which spawned three successful sequels and helped popularise the buddy cop film throughout the late 80s and 90s.
How To Make It Not Suck: It is imperative that the same R-rated tone be kept throughout - remember that Riggs was suicidal in the first movie, following his wife's death? - or this will just become another diluted, meek interpretation of a classic franchise. While keeping the race dynamic the same is probably a smart idea, the characters need to become their own; casting young actors as Riggs and Murtaugh will likely leave a sour taste in the mouths of viewers. This needs to be within the same scope of tone and narrative, but its own thing also.
