3. The Shining (1997)

Why mess with brilliance? Stanley Kubrick directed the original version starring a terrifying Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. Shot to creepy perfection it gave us moments that live on today in movie history. Who can forget Nicholson hacking through the door with a Heres Johnny!? The slow descent of his character Jack Torrance into madness is made shockingly real. Images of twins and redrum haunted us and are referenced regularly in pop culture today. Yet buried back in the dark corners where it belongs is a made for TV remake of this masterpiece. There was nothing to this version starring Steven Weber and Rebecca DeMornay, that it was almost an insult and desecration to the original.
