3. A Fiery Temper - David O. Russell

Accomplishments: Despite never winning, Russell has five Oscar nods for writing and directing, and has enjoyed a major career uptick since 2010, with massive acclaim being lavished on The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. Joy? Not so much.

The Flaw: Here's a flaw that isn't so much about Russell's films themselves but him as a person. Russell has a notoriously ferocious temper, such that George Clooney ended up grabbing him by the throat after he accosted crew members on Three Kings. There's also the infamous leaked video from the set of I Heart Huckabees, where Russell goes off on a shouting tirade at Lily Tomlin, calling her a "c***".

That's not all either: he also made Amy Adams cry on the set of American Hustle, and Christian Bale had to step in to tell Russell that he was being out of line. Though Russell still makes acclaimed movies, his reputation unfortunately precedes him and may explain why he's never actually won an Oscar. He is in effect his own worst enemy.
