10 Infuriatingly Stale Actors That Should Try Something Different For A Change
6. Vin Diesel
Cinema's most famous tank top enthusiast is apparently determined that every role he plays is either part of an existing franchise or the first installment of a new one, so it seems easy to forget that he got his big break being hand-picked by Steven Spielberg to appear in Saving Private Ryan after the legendary director was impressed with his self-written, directed and produced efforts Multi-Facial and Strays in the late-90s.
Since the double whammy of Pitch Black and The Fast and the Furious sent him rocketing towards the top of the A-list at the dawn of the 21st Century, Diesel has only appeared in seven movies where he wasn't playing either Richard B. Riddick, Dominic Toretto, Xander Cage or Groot.
Then, if you consider the fact that box office busts Babylon A.D., The Last Witch Hunter and Bloodshot were all intended to kick off a multi-film series, and both The Pacifier and A Man Apart leaned heavily into his action hero credentials, then the 52 year-old has only made the effort to play against type twice in the last 20 years.
Diesel burst onto the scene gaining Brando-like comparisons for his naturalism and intensity, but instead has remained content to grumble his way through a series of monotonous action flicks at the expense of striking out and diversifying his acting portfolio.
