10 INSANE Credits Scenes You Probably Missed

6. Rathe Is Moriarty - Young Sherlock Holmes

Sinners Post Credits
Paramount Pictures

1985's criminally underappreciated Young Sherlock Holmes cooked up one hell of a post-credits scene decades before the Marvel Cinematic Universe popularised the concept.

At the end of the film, we learn that the shadowy cult leader Eh-Tar is actually Sherlock's (Nicholas Rowe) friend and fencing teacher, Professor Rathe (Anthony Higgins).

Holmes triumphs over Rathe in their climactic clash, with Rathe falling through some ice into the River Thames, apparently drowning as he does so.

However, at the end of the credits, a man can be seen checking into an inn in Switzerland, who then signs his name as Holmes' legendary foe, Moriarty. But there's one more surprise in store - Moriarty is then revealed to be a still-alive Rathe/Eh-Tar.

This is one of those brilliant sequel-bait stingers that's passed so many people by simply because it wasn't expected for a 1985 movie to so explicitly tease another movie in this way, nor drop a game-changing twist long after most people had left the cinema or turned the film off.

And sadly, the promised sequel never materialised either.
