10 Insane Deleted Scenes That Thankfully Didn't Make The Final Film

One of the most divisive (and deliberately boring) films in recent history, Nicolas Winding Refn’s polarising art house thriller stars Ryan Gosling as Julian, an exiled American running a Muay Thai boxing club (which serves as a front for his family’s drug smuggling operation) who discovers that his brother has been murdered.

Upon hearing the news, their mother comes to town demanding Julian takes bloody revenge and his hunt leads him to Chang, “The Angel Of Vengeance,“ an ex-cop who’s taken it upon himself to take matters into his own hands.

After a bunch of surreal events and realisations, the film ends with Julian standing in a field, with his arms outstretched. Chang is there as well, and like the forgiving man that he is, he chops off Julian’s arms. With the removal of his hands, Julian can finally be at peace with himself. Or can he?

In the original script there was to be a final scene featuring a now amputated Julian with his “girlfriend” as she feeds him pudding. In a movie that's already completely nuts, this would have somehow made things even odder. Only God Forgives is designed in such a way that it resembles a dream or, more accurately, a nightmare. In other words, nobody knows what the hell is going on. This ultimately scrapped scene would have too closely resembled a concrete conclusion.
